(2010/03/12) Just when I thought I had made it through the winter pretty much unscathed, I was knocked down flat with seasonal influenza. Not fun. I was right down in bed for six days.
(2010/02/23) Nothing beats the aroma of homemade yeast bread or rolls. But preparing them from scratch can be time consuming. I purchased a bread machine several years ago, and it pretty much adorns my countertop. One of my New Year’s resolutions is going to be to use that machine more often!
(2009/12/14) Once again, a wonderful Thanksgiving Day at the Tee Pee. Every year we see new faces mixing with those who have been volunteering for years.
(2009/12/02) Can you believe next week is Thanksgiving? I’m planning on volunteering at the TeePee for the 17th consecutive year, but then want to have family at my house later that day to share a meal.
(2009/11/18) There’s not much to say about these dark, rainy days that we’ve had in October, except that for me it’s easier to stay inside and cook up a batch of chili or homemade soup to enjoy during the Packer game.
(2009/10/28) Danita Dubord was gracious enough to submit some venison recipes, which I welcome, since I’m not at all familiar with cooking game. I gladly will eat it, but just have not had experience cooking it.
(2009/10/15) The nip of fall is in the air, although this week has been warmer than some in August. For some reason, I find myself drawn to pork recipes, and recipes calling for apples or pumpkin and spices.
(2009/09/16) Time to take advantage of garden produce this time of year in Wisconsin. This Summer Squash Casserole is delicious and a great way to use the super-healthy food - squash. My mother truly would be shocked if she knew I was eating squash. As a child I was a very picky eater, and in addition to what she was preparing for supper, she often made something just for me, probably just so I’d quit whining. And when we’d go out on Friday nights for a fish fry, she’d always make me an egg sandwich beforehand and I would just have french fries at the restaurant, because I “didn’t like fish”. But later in life my tastes have changed and I’ve come to see some of the things I was missing. I now love fish and eat it at least once a week. (Same with lobster, I love it - now that I have to pay for it myself!) There are limits, however, and I still haven’t found a fondness for potato salad or deviled eggs or anything “pickled”.
(2009/08/19) I’ve done lots of cooking and baking, but I’m not too creative in the pasta category.
(2009/07/29) My oldest granddaughter is becoming a “foodie”! Do you know how exciting that is for me?
