Published - Wednesday, October 21, 2009 Volleyball squad loses MVC finale The Tomah High School volleyball squad ended the Mississippi Valley Conference season with a 25-15, 25-21, 26-24 loss to La Crosse Aquinas Thursday in the Tomah High School gymnasium. The Timberwolves finished the MVC season with a 2-10 record. Aquinas improved to 9-3 and clinched sole possession of second place. Junior Amber Patterman led Tomah with seven kills. Kristine Schill paced the Blugolds with eight kills. Next for the Timberwolves is the WIAA Division 1 playoffs. Tomah received the number-16 seed and will travel to Middleton for a regional semifinal match Thursday. Middleton won the Big Eight Conference Friday by beating Madison LaFollette and is looking for a second straight trip to the WIAA tournament. Middleton also reached the state tournament in 2001 and 2002. Other first-round matches (seeds in parentheses): * Sun Prairie (9) at La Crosse Central (8). * Oregon (12) at Madison West (5). * Holmen (13) at Verona (4). * Madison East (14) at Madison LaFollette (3). * La Crosse Logan (11) at Madison Memorial (6). * DeForest (10) at Stoughton (7). * Baraboo (15) at Waunakee (2). Regional finals are Saturday at the sites of the highest remaining seeds. The sectional final is Oct. 31 at Waunakee.
