Margaret E. Haase Frost

JANESVILLE - Margaret E. Haase Frost, 85, of Janesville, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, in Houston, TX. She was born May 31, 1924, to Adolph and Ursula (Densmore) Kemp in Madison, WI. She was confirmed at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Kirby and graduated from Tomah High School in 1940 on her 16th birthday. Her first job following graduation was switchboard operator at Wisconsin Bell in Madison where she was working when Pearl Harbor was bombed Dec. 7, 1941; every light on the board lit up! She was united in marriage to Arthur R. Haase on Aug. 14, 1944, in Kirby, moving many times before settling in Janesville in 1962. She was proud to be the first kindergarten teacher at St Matthew’s, Janesville. Her devotion to family and friends showed in her faithfully sent cards, letters and thank you notes. She enjoyed her Bible study groups and served on many church committees throughout the years.

Arthur preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1990, after 46 years of marriage. She later married LeRoy R. Frost on March 12, 1995, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Kirby. They were blessed with six years of marriage before he was called home on Jan. 30, 2002.

Margaret is survived by four children: Edward (Lynn) Haase of Oostburg, Evelyn (Ken) Wisniewski of Janesville, Beverly (Doug) Meaden of Houston, Adolph “Al” Haase of San Pedro, CA; 26 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren: a sister, Elinor (Lew) Driver of Janesville; two brothers, Ronnie (Connie) Kemp and William (Ruth) Kemp of Camp Douglas; many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Arthur Haase Jr. in 1998 and Frederick Haase in 1977; two sisters, Helen Forbush and Donna Ghelfi, and a brother, Eugene Kemp.

Funeral services will be held in Janesville at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Lindner officiating. Burial will follow at Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Donations can be made to St. Matthew’s or Hospice. Raymond G. Hatfield

Raymond G. Hatfield, 79, of Tomah, passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, surrounded by his loving family, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born April 12, 1930, to Ray C. Hatfield and Hazel (Erhardt) Hatfield in Savannah, IL. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Harris in 1948 and later married Gladys Thornsen in 1984. He worked for Interstate Power Company in Clinton, Iowa, for many years before moving to Tomah to work for the Milwaukee Railroad. He retired from the Monroe County Highway Department where he had worked for numerous years as a patrolman. He was a devoted member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. He enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunting with his dogs, fishing and bird watching. He also enjoyed spending time spoiling his grandchildren.

He is survived by three sons, Terry (Cindy) of Merrillan, Keith of Tomah and Rodney (Linda) of Mauston; five daughters, Tammy (Kenneth) Newcomb and Cindy (Timothy) Slater, both of Tomah, Darlene (Claire) Muenzenberger of Warrens, Linda (Ronald) Thurston of Sparta, and Lisa (Paul) Boehme of Viola; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one expected great-grandson; a brother, Larry (Becky) Hatfield of AK, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Ray Alvin Hatfield, a grandson Timothy Muenzenberger, a brother, James Hatfield, and two sisters, Hazel Mae and Bernice.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home. Pastor Edwin W. Stigen will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Town of Tomah.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, Oct. 16, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah, and on Saturday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Marilyn L. Rosenau

Marilyn L. Rosenau, 79, of Sparta and formerly of La Crosse, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta following a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born April 23, 1930, in Rushford, MN, to Arthur and Ida Katherine (Woxland) Thoreson. Marilyn married Calvin Rosenau on Aug. 9, 1952, in St. Paul, MN. In 1955 the couple moved to La Crosse. Marilyn was dedicated to her family and church where she served as Sunday School teacher and librarian. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and baking. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in La Crosse.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin of Sparta; two daughters, LeAnn Falk of Tomah and Susan (Brian) Peterson of Winona; four sons, Thomas (Rhonda) of La Crosse, Dean of Coon Valley, James of San Francisco, CA, and David (Tina) of Clark Summit, PA; 14 grandchildren; one brother; six sisters and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Faith Baptist Church, 3615 S. 28th St. in La Crosse with Rev. Stephen Terpstra officiating. Friends called at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley assisted the family.

Juanita “Nita” Sarney

Juanita “Nita” Sarney, age 89, of Tomah, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Tomah Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 1, 1920, to Herman and Iona (Pitts) Carrington in Sandy Springs, Ohio.

She was united in marriage to Harry Gilner; he preceded her in death in 1966. Nita worked at the Farmers & Merchants Bank in Tomah for many years. She was united in marriage to Art Sarney Oct. 14, 1978.

She is survived by her husband, Art of Tomah; her daughter, Patricia “Pat” (Allen) Gregory; grandchildren, Jeffrey Gregory and Lisa (Daniel) Hanson; great-grandchildren, Alli Warner, Ashley Hanson, Andrew Hanson and Tava Gregory; a great-great-granddaughter, Riley; and two step-brothers, Robert (Shirley) Hefner of Oakdale and Harold (Ruth) Hefner of Tomah; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Iona; and her first husband, Harry.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Pastor William Swan officiated. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah assisted the family with arrangements.
