Becky L. Wood

Becky L. Wood, age 52, of Tomah, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at the Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse, WI.

She was the 1957 Tomah New Year’s baby born on Jan. 2, to Ernest “Pat” and Joy (Paddock) Wood in Tomah. Becky graduated from Tomah High School in 1975. She worked at the Wood Family IGA Store in Warrens. She was united in marriage to Richard Monskey on Oct. 29, 1977, at her parents’ home in Warrens.

Becky enjoyed sewing, including wedding and bridesmaids’ dresses, Halloween costumes and Renaissance costumes. She won a few Scarecrow Contests at the Warrens Cranberry Festival. She liked to build, remodel and fix things; she was in the process of building a playhouse for her granddaughter that was to be complete with electricity and running water. Becky collected statues and painted wall murals. She was a HAM radio operator (KB9OJX). It was a Wednesday night tradition to watch Ghost Hunters and eat pizza. More than anything she loved to be challenged by family and friends. Blessed be.

She is survived by her mother, Joy Wood; her children, Stephanie Monskey, Sonia Monskey and Samuel Monskey, all of Tomah; grandchildren, Ren and Ivy Nees; siblings, Bev (Bob Bowen) Treu of Sparta, Sandy (Dave Schaldach) Wood of Warrens, Donna Salem of Tomah, Ruthie (John) Carey of Houston, TX, and Richard (Pat) Wood of Albert Lee, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest “Pat”; infant twins, Abbey and Arin; and a nephew, Kory Clemmerson.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 4:30 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Dennis Frost will officiate. Burial followed in the Warren Mills Cemetery, Warrens. Family and friends called on Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of service at Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah.

Rita Kron

Rita Kron, age 79, of Tomah, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009, at the Tomah Healthcare Center. She was born on July 12, 1930, to Roy and Margaret (Weber) Wolcovsky in Tomah, Wisconsin. She was a 1948 graduate of Tomah High School.

Following high school she attended college in Chicago where she had her secretarial training. Her first job was at McMullen Transfer as secretary before starting at the Tomah VA Medical Center. Rita then took off 10 years to care for her son Eric at home. In July of 1975 she started at the VA again, where she worked until her retirement.

She is survived by her children, Carla (Karl Kutschan) Kron and Eric Kron; grandchildren, Joshua Kron, Michael Braund, Michelle (Shawn) Woodard, Brittany and Jared Kutschan; great grandchildren, Erica and Cody; a dear friend, David Braund; a sister-in-law, Frances Kron of Minnesota; and brother-in-law, Eugene Kron of Minnesota; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Margaret; her husband, Othmar in 1975; and 5 sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, 10 a.m. at St.. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomah. The Very Rev. Steven J. Kachel will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements. Leonard O. Klump

Leonard O. Klump, 78, of Tomah, died Friday, October 2 ,2009 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Tomah. He was born September 16, 1931 in the Township of Glendale, Monroe County. He was the son of George and Florence (Oldfield) Klump. He grew up in the Kendall area and graduated from the Kendall High School in 1948. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 during the time of the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Donna Simonson on August 8, 1959 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Wilton. Leonard and Donna then moved to Tomah. He worked for the Kendall Coop, Walt Wittigs Shell Station, and for the Arnie Gilbertson and Bob Nicol’s service stations. Leonard retired from the Milwaukee-Soo Line railroad in 1995.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the family camping trips. He enjoyed working with wood making various things. Although, Leonard was a quiet man he was known to bring a smile to many with his jokes and pranks.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Donna, two sons, Keith (Brenda) of Tomah, Kevin (Anne) of Ringle, a daughter, Barbara (Mark) Schiermeyer of Tomah, eight grandchildren, Jamie, Heather, Kory, Kassandra, Michaela, Tristan, Dawson and Isabella, three step-grandchildren, Samantha, Mandi and Murry, three great-grandsons, Dylan, Corbin and Devan, four sisters, Florence Krause of Tomah, Doris (Donald) Prochaska of Tomah, Angie (Harold) Saxby of Wilton, Shirley Winkleman of Portage, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, George, Norman and Terrence, four sisters, Phyllis, Francis, Helen and Kathleen, four brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Weds. Oct. 7, 2009, 11 a.m. at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Tomah. Pastor David Dahl will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Vernon cemetery.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tues. from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St. and on Weds. at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
