Haleigh Flottmeyer finished 19th in a field of 47 runners to lead the Tomah High School girls cross country team to a fifth-place finish in Thursday’s Pioneer Westfield Invitational held at the Westfield High School.
Flottmeyer, a senior, ran the 4,000-kilometer (2.5-mile) course in 19 minutes, 50 seconds.
Another Tomah runner almost finished in the top half of the field. Tara Lamb finished 24th with a time of 20:58. She missed climbing into the top half of the field by three seconds.
Tomah’s other varsity finishers were: Amber Ingwell (23:11), Gabriella Mubarak (23:45), Ariel Scott (25:21) and Chloe Shmays (25:22).
Reedsburg runners took the first two individual spots. Brea Goodman won the race in 17:03, and Dakota Goodman was next at 17:41. The Goodmans led their Reedsburg squad to first place.
Team scores: Reedsburg 37, Lodi 47, Mosinee 70, Wisconsin Dells 100, Tomah 125, Princeton 144.
Four teams, including Tomah, qualified complete teams for the junior varsity race.
Coty Jensen was Tomah’s top jayvee runner. She finished 17th of 31 runners with a time of 26:02.
Other Tomah jayvees were: Katie Elsing (26:29), Hillary Byrum (27:01), Cassandra Bogle (28:55) and Kelsey Rose (28:57).
Runners from Lodi finished first through seventh and led the Blue Devils to a perfect team scores:
