The Tomah High School girls tennis team has zoomed out to a 3-0 start.
Coach Cathy Brookman’s squad put two more into the victory column Thursday at the Reedsburg Triangular. The Timberwolves defeated Reedsburg, 5-2, and then blanked Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, 7-0.
Brookman said the results are a good harbinger for a young team that has just three seniors playing on the 10-athlete varsity roster.
“Going 3-0 has given them some confidence,” Brookman said. “It’s a younger lineup, and I think this has given them a boost.”
Three singles entrants and two doubles teams remain undefeated after three matches. The freshman doubles team of Erica Deming and Heather McCarty has yet to lose a set in the number-three slot.
Brookman said the girls have done an outstanding job of preparing themselves for matches.
“They looked prepared for competition, which is outstanding considering there’s one coach supervising 27 players,” Brookman said. “That’s a real testament to how they approach the game.”
Tomah gets eight days off before hosting the Tomah Triangular Friday at the Tomah High School tennis court. The Timberwolves will play dual matches against Wisconsin Dells and Black River Falls. The first match begins at 9 a.m.
