Potter wins feature at Dells Raceway

Cardell Potter only recently obtained his driver’s license, but the Camp Douglas racer is already driving like a veteran at the Dells Raceway Park.

Potter won the checkered flag Saturday in the Limited Late Model division for his first feature win of the season.

It took Potter just five laps to take the lead from Tim Syvrud of Poynette during the 35-lap event.

Potter got past Syvrud with a successful run on the outside and appeared to be on his way to an easy win until the caution flew with four laps to go after Mike Ehde made contact with the wall in turn three. Potter wasn't fazed by the turn of events as he continued to lead on the re-start and captured the win over Steve Lichtfield of Portage.

Wes Coon of Nekoosa held off a late charge from Ross Kenseth of Spring Valley, Ill., to finish third. Syvrud rounded out the top five.

Potter’s victory moved him to within 12 points of sixth place in the season standings.

Super stocks

In the Super Stocks, Tomah’s Corey Jankowski finished third in the feature race but failed to gain ground on points leader Travis Hancock of Mauston, who won the feature. Mike Lichtfield of Pardeeville finished second.

The race for the season title remains a two-way battle between Hancock and Jankowski. Hancock extended his lead over Jankowski to 20 points, 1,669-1,469.

Starting Aug. 16, the racing program will start at 6:30 p.m. for the remainder of the 2008 season. That’s one half-hour earlier than the previous start time.

“We realize that we cannot run late into the night,” Joe Graziano, Dells Raceway Park Promoter said. “So we decided that by starting at 6:30 p.m., we can accomplish this goal and give our fans ample time to visit the pits and meet the drivers after the races.”

Dells Raceway Park is located north of the Wisconsin Dells area off of Highway 12/16 on N1070 Smith Road, Wisconsin Dells. For more information, visit the track's website at www.dellsracewaypark.com or call (608) 253-RACE.
