Tomah’s Corey Jankowski won a checkered flag Saturday as he attempted to regain his season points lead at the Dells Raceway Park.

Jankowski won the Super Stock feature race and pulled to within 16 points of leader Travis Hancock of Mauston.

Hancock set the fast qualifying time, but it was Brad Muller of Hillsboro who started on the pole position. Muller held on to first place for much of the feature, but fire underneath his hood during the final lap of the feature’s first leg forced him to drop out.

Jankowski, the fourth-fastest qualifier, took advantage of the opening. He worked his way form eighth to fourth in the first part of the feature. Six laps into the second leg, Jankowski powered into the lead and cruised to his fourth feature victory of the season.

The Super Stock division has boiled down to a two-car race between Hancock and Jankowski. Third place Mike Lichtfeld of Pardeeville is 97 points behind Jankowski.

Potter eighth

In the Limited Late Model division, Cardell Potter of Camp Douglas was the ninth-best qualifier and finished eighth in the feature race. The feature was won by Andrew Kulka of Deerfield.

Potter is seventh in the season standings with 1,315 points. Rich Schumann of Portage leads with 1,450 points.

Saturday, Aug. 9, is Military Salute Night at Dells Raceway Park. The track will honor American armed forces with an Army band quintet for the National Anthem, Vietnam Vets Color Guard, National Guard Climbing Wall, and Coast Guard Auxiliary displays.

Anyone with a valid military ID or veterans card will receive half off the price of admission that day.
