The Tomah American Legion Seniors baseball team owns a 4-7 record after gaining a split at Wisconsin Dells July 14 and losing a 15-9 decision at Sparta Tuesday.

Tomah won the first game at Wisconsin Dells, 8-1, behind the pitching of Tyler Felber and the power of Kevin Barth and J.J. Johnson.

Felber pitched a complete game while giving up three hits. He was backed by a defense that committed just one error.

Barth blasted a 3-run homer in the fifth inning, while Johnson belted a solo shot in the second. Wyatt Blado contributed to the offense by pounding three hits in four at-bats, while Joey Organ was 2-for-4 with a double.

In the second game, Wisconsin Dells scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to win, 15-5, and trigger the 10-run rule. Tomah used four different pitchers in the sixth inning trying to douse the Wisconsin Dells rally.

Johnson led the Tomah offense by going 2-for-2 with a double. Organ was also 2-for-2, while Barth had three RBIs.

At Sparta, Tomah scored seven runs in the fourth to grab a 9-7 lead, but Sparta came back with five runs in the bottom of the inning.

Mytchel Schmidt hit a three-run triple for Tomah, while Tommie Liddane had an RBI double.

Felber, Schmidt and Barth were the Tomah pitchers.

Tomah wraps up the regular season Tuesday at Bangor in a 7 p.m. game.

Tomah won’t field a team in this week’s Region 4 Seniors tournament at Holmen due to lack of players. Tomah has only four players over the age of 16, and only three players younger than 16 can play in both the Juniors and Seniors tournaments. All of Tomah’s 16-and-under players suited up for last weekend’s Juniors tournament at Tomah’s Dennis Senz Field.

" No, it's not because of me that they chose not to play. Its because of their lack of dedication and commitment to their sport and teammates. They would rather to go out and party and get into trouble. Same way with the school teams. So, you can blame me all you want, but you should really pull your head out of the sand and see what is really going on. "

" It's because of people like you that no other seniors decided to play this summer. A job is more important than being ridiculed by people like you who have nothing better to do. Kudos to the 3 seniors who did play the whole season. Good luck in your futures. I hope baseball always stays in your hearts! "

" But yet, as stated in another article, Coach Dutton believes the program is headed in the right direction. LOL "
