There wasn’t a more effective player in the Mississippi Valley Conference at gaining possession in the midfield than Tomah’s Nikki Reinart.

Her dominance of the midfield won the respect of the MVC girls soccer coaches.

Reinart, a junior, was honored as a first team selection on the all-MVC squad. She was one of three players nominated as Player of the Year.

“I think the coaches respected Nikki’s dedication and the passion she has for the game,” Tomah coach Dale Jonson said. “She’s an aggressive player but not a dirty player. Whenever we lost possession, she always fought hard to get the ball back.”

Two Tomah players -- forward Jorden James and defensive midfielder Nicole Vollmer -- made the second team. Both are juniors. Jonson said James gave the Timberwolves a speedy attacker who could convert scoring opportunities, while Vollmer thwarted numerous attacks from the opposition and initiated Tomah’s own buildups on offense.

Two other Timberwolves’ players were honorable mention -- attacking midfielder Kelsey Gnewikow, a senior, and defender Brandi Patterman, a junior.

“To have players at four different positions to have received all-conference recognition coming back next year is exciting,” Jonson said. “We’re really optimistic about next season.”

Six seniors, four juniors and one sophomore won first-team honors. The remaining members of the first team were:

Lizzie Taggart, senior, forward, La Crosse Logan; Kelsey Case, senior, defender, Onalaska; Rachel Greene, junior, midfield, Onalaska; Katie Schill, senior, midfield, La Crosse Aquinas; Kathleen Hagan, senior, midfield, Aquinas; Jamie Kenyon, sophomore, forward, Sparta; Brittany Binsfeld, senior, midfield, Logan; Taylor Mathy, junior, midfield, Aquinas; Kelsey Gorniak, junior, forward, West Salem; Paige Coriden, senior, defender, Aquinas.

The rest of the second team: McKenzie Hart, junior, midfielder, Holmen; Katie Hill, junior, forward, Onalaska; Laura May, freshman, midfielder, Onalaska; Kelsey Anderson, senior, forward, Sparta; Hannah Pollack, junior, midfielder, Central; Kielty Wintersteen, senior, goalkeeper, La Crosse Central; Caitlin Durnin, senior, defender; Logan; Alice Levine, senior, midfielder, Logan; Claire Donskey, sophomore, defender, Aquinas.

The remaining honorable mention picks:

Katlyn McHenry, sophomore, forward, Holmen; Alex Wright, senior, midfield, Holmen; Carmen Lezpona, freshman, forward, Onalaska; Erin Case, freshman, defender, Onalaska; Jenna Anderson, freshman, midfield, Sparta; Holly Freeman, senior, defender, Sparta; Melissa Grau, junior, forward, Central; Karen Hill, sophomore, defender, Central; Hannah Udell, sophomore, forward, Logan; Taylor Lewis, senior, goalkeeper, Logan; Kylie Mannion, junior, forward, Aquinas; Kristine Schill, sophomore, defender, Aquinas; Brittany Ungerer, sophomore, midfielder, West Salem; Alexis Deery, sophomore, midfield, West Salem.

Kelsey Case of Onalaska was the Player of the Year, and Mike Jacobs of Onalaska was the Coach of the Year.
