For three years, Kevin Barth was a reliable power source as Tomah’s first baseman.

Last week, his abilities were recognized by the Mississippi Valley Conference as a second-team selection on the MVC all-conference baseball team.

Barth batted .341 and hit five home runs during his senior season. He has been Tomah’s starting first baseman the last three seasons.

“He’s a gamer,” said Tomah coach Matt Dutton. “He really stepped up as a senior leader and showed a real passion for the game.”

Dutton was hoping Barth would get first-team honors.

“He was deserving of the first team, but it didn’t work out that way,” Dutton said. “He was the top vote-getter for the second team.”

Two other Tomah seniors -- shortstop Mytchel Schmidt and outfielder Derek Nofsinger -- were honorable mention.

The first-team picks were: Tony Mueller, senior, shortstop, La Crosse Logan; Dylan Pedretti, senior, third base, Logan; Zach Rickaway, senior, pitcher, La Crosse Aquinas; Austin Lubinsky, senior, pitcher, Logan; Cody Pfennig, junior, infield, La Crosse Central; Kyle Stewart, senior, infield, Onalaska; Bobby Kachel, junior, outfield, Aquinas; C.J. Favre, senior, infield/pitcher, Aquinas; Jacob Anderson, senior, outfield, Sparta; Zak Welke, senior, catcher, Logan.

Joining Barth on the second team were: Bobby Juan, sophomore, infield, Central; Lucas Warren, junior, first base/pitcher, Central; Ross Jenks, senior, outfield, Holmen; Jarrod Bock, senior, infield, Holmen; Ben Squier, senior, catcher, Holmen; Mike Weber, senior, first baseman, Logan; John Munson, senior, outfield, Central; Jason King, senior, second baseman, Aquinas; Sam Pederson, senior, catcher, Aquinas.

The remaining honorable mention picks: Andrew Schanhofer, junior, infield/pitcher, Sparta; Dominic Lenz, junior, infield, Holmen; Corey Jessessky, senior, infield, Holmen: Tyler Adams, sophomore, outfield, Onalaska; Jordan Tredinnick, junior, shortstop, Onalaska; Bobby Butterfield, senior, outfield, Logan; Adam Kleman, senior, outfield, Logan; Ryan Ledvina, sophomore, outfield, Central; Joe Branson, senior, first baseman, Central; Cory Vegel, junior, outfield, Aquinas: Ben Kammel, senior, infield/pitcher, Aquinas.

Conference champion Logan swept the major awards. Mueller was the player of the year, Lubinsky was the pitcher of the year and Terry Curtis was the coach of the year.
