Published - Tuesday, July 01, 2008 MVC baseball coaches pick Barth for second team For three years, Kevin Barth was a reliable power source as Tomah’s first baseman. Last week, his abilities were recognized by the Mississippi Valley Conference as a second-team selection on the MVC all-conference baseball team. Barth batted .341 and hit five home runs during his senior season. He has been Tomah’s starting first baseman the last three seasons. “He’s a gamer,” said Tomah coach Matt Dutton. “He really stepped up as a senior leader and showed a real passion for the game.” Dutton was hoping Barth would get first-team honors. “He was deserving of the first team, but it didn’t work out that way,” Dutton said. “He was the top vote-getter for the second team.” Two other Tomah seniors -- shortstop Mytchel Schmidt and outfielder Derek Nofsinger -- were honorable mention. The first-team picks were: Tony Mueller, senior, shortstop, La Crosse Logan; Dylan Pedretti, senior, third base, Logan; Zach Rickaway, senior, pitcher, La Crosse Aquinas; Austin Lubinsky, senior, pitcher, Logan; Cody Pfennig, junior, infield, La Crosse Central; Kyle Stewart, senior, infield, Onalaska; Bobby Kachel, junior, outfield, Aquinas; C.J.
