Dairy Breakfast at Tomah farm
The 28th Annual Monroe County Dairy Breakfast will be held just north of Tomah at Dreier’s DairyAir.
The event will be held on June 7 at 10507 Ellsworth Road, Tomah. The breakfast will be held rain or shine, and will include educational displays, children’s activities, a dairy barn viewing and more.
The opening ceremony will begin at 7 a.m., and the breakfast will run through 11 a.m. Nearly 3,000 people are expected to attend.
“We generally serve between 2,800 and 3,000 people,” Dairy Breakfast chairman Keith Giraud said. “We will have a lot of volunteers serving.”
The breakfast offers scrambled eggs, ham, pancakes, cranberry juice, and frozen custard. Tomah FFA and 4H will be assisting with the event, and Culver’s restaurant will provide the frozen custard. Swiss Valley will provide the milk.
In addition to the breakfast, the event will include an educational tent featuring dairy information. The Tomah Fire Department will be performing demonstrations with Fort McCoy’s Fire Safety House. Horse-drawn wagon rides, a petting zoo, an antique tractor display and a children’s pedal tractor pull will also be featured. The cost is $3 per person and $2 for children ages six to 10. Under six is free.
“It is a great opportunity for our customers to come out, bring their children and see where milk comes from and have fun,” Giraud said.
The Dairy Breakfast will be the second time the Dreier family has hosted the event on their farm. The first time was 1994. The Dreier’s want the Dairy Breakfast to continue to be held at area farms, so when they were asked to host the event, they were glad to.
“They were having trouble finding someone to host it,” Bob Dreier said of the Monroe County Dairy Breakfast. “We thought if it ended up going to the fairgrounds, it would stay there. We want to keep it on a farm.”
The Dairy Breakfast has not changed much since the last time the Dreier’s hosted it 14 years ago, Rita Dreier said. It went smoothly back then, and they are expecting a successful event once again.
“The crowd was about the same size 14 years ago, and it went real smooth,” Rita Dreier said. “We did it once. We can do it again.”
