The Tomah School Board will get its first look at the 2008-09 budget when it meets Thursday, 7:30 p.m., in the Tomah High School library.
It will be the first regular meeting conducted by new school board President Dave Stutzman. He was elected as board president April 28 to replace Gene Baumgarten, who didn’t seek re-election. Prior to the meeting, there will be a recognition of retiring teachers and staff members.
Board members will get an update on the budget that will be presented at the annual meeting in August. They will also set a special meeting to close the books on the 2007-08 budget.
The board will also hear a report from the Facilities Committee on proposals to replace deteriorated tennis courts at Tomah High School (see article at top of page).
Much of the meeting will be consumed by proposed policy changes, including those covering controversial issues in the classroom, staff ethics, open enrollment, suspensions and expulsions, and search and seizures, and revised by-laws on agenda and regular meetings.
Other agenda items include:
* An update from the Ad Hoc Four-Year-Old Kindergarten Committee.
* Proposed 2008-09 meeting schedule.
* Presentation of the high school gymnasium floor refinishing project.
* Elementary enrollment and classroom assignments.
* Staffing requests for 2008-09.
* Vacancy on Activities Review Committee.
* School board committee assignments.
* Recognition of students and staff.
