What was supposed to be a Tuesday soccer match in Tomah was transformed into a Wednesday soccer match in Sparta.

The sudden change in venue didn’t rattle the Timberwolves.

Tomah marched into Sparta and grabbed a 2-1 Mississippi Valley Conference victory.

The Tuesday game was postponed after lightning struck during the introductions. The game was moved to Sparta, and the May 19 rematch was rescheduled for Tomah.

“The change didn’t affect us at all,” Tomah coach Dale Jonson said. “We started slowly, but once we got going, we played good, solid soccer. Our offense did a good job of maintaining possession, and that kept the pressure off the defense.”

Jorden James and Tiffany Brookman scored the Tomah goals. Kelsey Gnewikow and Danica Zimmerman got assists.
