(The following is a sample of e-mails sent to the Tomah School District over the controversy concerning a classroom grading policy that prohibits religious art. Some e-mails provided by the district are not included due to vulgarity or bad taste.)

“I can’t believe what I am reading about your art teacher and your school in general. Do you people have no guts, shame or pride. A picture MIGHT offend someone. Too bad. Let it offend and let them bring the lawsuit. If they don’t like it let them look away. Cowardly people like you and your teachers are making this country look shameful in the eyes of the world. I wonder what you would do if an art project had a reference to Islam.”

“Not sure who is responsible for the idiotic policy that medles (sic) in a child’s personal beliefs. And even if one was not responsible for the policy, who, but a moron would enforce such an unconstitutional and offensive policy? Hopefully, this sort of thing is not happening in the US. Sounds more like the USSR.”

“Julie, you and your enablers at Tomah High School get a grade of zero in history, and in civics, and in common sense, and in tolerance, and in leadership ...

“About 85% of Americans believe in God. So naturally you kowtow to the very small minority, the insignificant minority, who delight in taking offense at all things Christian.

“Where in the Constitution does it say that loud minorities have a right not to be offended ...

“I believe you’re pretty stupid to make the news the way you did. You should be ashamed of yourselves, but I’m afraid you aren’t smart enough to be ashamed.”

“I cannot believe that you would have the audacity (and brilliantly stupid) nerve to tell a student that his artistic expression of his religious beliefs not only was unacceptable but that his artwork might infringe on other students’ rights.

“I guess Buddha and Hindu figures and demonic images do not infringe on others’ rights -- right? That kid that you punished for expressing his religious believes is going to win this federal lawsuit and I hope that part of the settlement punish (sic) both of you for your stupidity and arrogant disregard for the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (Did you ever read in that in your professional preparation program to become teachers and then school administrators? Probably not since the educational establishment is dominated by left-wing socialist idiots like you.)”

“Just a word from far away, nothing personal. As your school district is discriminating against anything Christian I would just like to warn you that the Lord has his own ways of retribution. Please pass this warning along to all involved (and have a laugh), so when their lives turn to disaster, it was all their own fault.

“America is going down and will be severely disciplined because of the attitude of the non believers but you will all sit back and blame someone else. See you all down the gurgler.”

“Hinduism, buddism (sic), necromancy, sorcery, demonism ... these are all acceptable “art” in you school but Christianity isn’t? That is pathetic! Whether you and other like want to admit it or not, this country was FOUNDED on Christianity why is it a dirty word now? ... How many kids will you send the wrong message and drive away from Christianity and doom them to hell? Believe me, you will know the exact number and be held accountable for it when you meet God.”

“I do not live in your community, so I can hear you saying that it is none of my business. But, I do live in the community of free citizens of the United States. I believe it is our obligation to stand up against this kind of lop sided, irrational, self centered behavior that is represented by your actions. We have an obligation to be involved anywhere we see freedom being trampled on, as it is in your school district.”

" They are victims....most people don't know the whole story, they should have also put all the good things that were said regarding this. It isn't that Christians are being selected out. It was a policy, nobody won this battle. They were over thrown by a group calling themselves Christians backed by a tyranny of attorney's seeking money for any cause.....what about the policies churches have?? Should they be dragged in court too. By the way, still no floating scriptures. It's pathetic how a simple assignment got so out of hand. He could have met the teacher 1/2 way by removing the floating scripture as asked. Many landscapes out there that would be appropriate, just not floating scriptures. Many old churches, etc. Was it so hard just to remove something that isn't seen in a landscape??? Or maybe just those that feel they are the "chosen" ones see them. I am a Christian but this is a perfect example of why I don't do organized religion, between all the churches, they all have problems, whether money, molesting children or practicing spiritual marriages. Interesting program on cults coming up on CNN. "

" ...and the purpose of putting these in the paper? Is the school working some PR by trying to show that some people wrote some nasty things to the school? Well, you know what, some people said some nasty things about the student, his parents, and Christians in general. Those were in the public square. Why would these email that were private get published in the local paper. What is the reason behind this? The fact is that the school has admitted that they recognized they violated the student's rights, and they reversed the policy. However, now they are going to try to work PR, like they are some kind of victim. Their reversal of the policy is a logical exposure of their culpability in the situation! "
