Tomah’s Ali Van Havermaet and La Crosse Logan’s Michelle Mueller were utterly dominated for the 13 of 14 half-innings they combined to pitch Thursday.

However, Van Havermaet wasn’t dominant in her half of the sixth, and it decided the game.

Logan busted loose for four runs in the top of the sixth and went on to defeat Tomah, 5-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference softball match at Gerke Field.

A day earlier, Tomah suffered its most lopsided defeat of the season in a 10-0 setback at La Crosse Aquinas. On Friday, Tomah was losing to Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, 2-0, before the game was suspended by rain in the top of the fifth inning. A two-run homer in the fourth accounted for the only scoring.

Saturday’s non-conference game at Westby was postponed.

The Timberwolves emerged from the week with a 2-8 overall record and 1-8 MVC mark.

Van Havermaet was pitching a no-hitter until the sixth, when a wild pitch allowed the game’s first run to score. Logan got its second run on an RBI groundout. Mueller then hit an RBI single and later scored on an error.

Mueller had a no-hitter going into the fourth, when Ashley Kenworthy led off with a single. Kenworthy, however, didn’t advanced past first base.

Michelle Luebke led off the sixth with a single, but Mueller retired the next three batters. Ally Von Haden cracked a one-out double in the seventh but was left stranded on second.

Van Havermaet wound up with a four-hitter. She struck out six and walked five.

Tomah’s lone bright spot at Aquinas was Ally Von Haden’s double. Aquinas busted the game open with six runs in the second.
