Letter: Health care providers support Relay for Life

I want to thank Melisa Thideman for her recent comments in support of BOTH the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and TACS. Melisa has been very supportive of both groups in the past.

In her letter, Melisa pointed out that the local health care organizations have been absent from the Relay for Life of Monroe County. The planning committee for the 2008 Relay for Life recognizes the importance of the presence of the health care organizations at our event. To that end, the committee made regaining the support of those organizations a top priority and contacts were made in March.

As of this writing, the committee is happy to welcome Tomah Memorial Hospital, Deer Creek Dental Clinic, Ltd., Gundersen Lutheran-Tomah Clinic and Franciscan Skemp Healthcare-Lake Tomah Clinic who have agreed to generously support our event in the form of sponsorships.

Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back! That is what we will be doing on June 13 at 14 and the Tomah High School Track.

* Celebrating the lives of those who have battled cancer. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight.

* Remembering loved ones lost to the disease. At Relay, people who have walked alongside people battling cancer can grieve and find healing.

* Fighting Back. We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to the disease.

This year marks the ten (“tin”) year anniversary of the local event and plans have been made to make it a special time. If anyone is interested in sponsoring a team or joining a team or participating on their own or in any other way, they can still do so. You can visit our website at www.events.cancer.org/rfltomahwi or call 877-423-9125, ext. 101.
