When plans were announced by Fort McCoy that they would like to build a hotel and recreation complex for the benefit of troops and their families when they are there to see their sons and daughters leave for Iraq and Afghanistan, and when they return home - I could not believe that Tomah was all for it, and Sparta was all against it. But that sounds normal for the Sparta City Council.

They must live in a box with no windows in it. They have had the business benefit of Fort McCoy since World War II (90 years) and now want to be anti-troop benefit.

It seems to me, Tomah would have more to lose with approximately 660 rooms than Sparta with 200. If the Army wants to spend money in Monroe County, I’m all for it. As they are going to spend it somewhere, why not here instead of Texas? It will benefit the local economy for all businesses. There are other people in the county who don’t live in Sparta.

Sparta City Council, wake up!

Rep. Ron Kind should wake up, too, not sit on the fence.

Mahlon Denter,

Wilton
