Published - Sunday, April 27, 2008 Johnson leads Tomah golfers Sports Editor Eric Johnson delivered a breakthrough round of 79, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Tomah High School boys golf team from dropping into a three-way tie for fourth in the Mississippi Valley Conference standings. Tomah finished sixth at the third MVC meet of the season held at Forest Hills Golf Club, La Crosse Logan’s home course. The Timberwolves are tied for fourth in the season standings with La Crosse Central and La Crosse Aquinas. Johnson became the first Tomah golfer this season to break 80 in an MVC match. It was also the first MVC meet that someone other than Josh Kohnhorst was Tomah’s top golfer. Kohnhorst was the number-two golfer Tuesday with a score of 85. Scott Pierce and David Pierce both shot 90s to round out the Timberwolves’ scoring. Onalaska juniors Mark Wittchow and Brad Preeshl shared medalist honors by shooting even-par rounds of 71. Onalaska finished 10 shots better than second-place Holmen and has won all three MVC meets this season. Team scores: Onalaska 299, Holmen 309, Sparta 313, Aquinas 336, Central 339, Tomah 344, Logan 375. The Timberwolves step away from the MVC schedule Friday to compete at the Onalaska Invitational.
