It was a busy three days for the Tomah High School girls soccer team.
Jorden James and Kelsey Gnewikow both scored twice for the Timberwolves in a 6-0 victory at Holmen Thursday.
Tomah then went to the Janesville Invitational and posted a 1-2 record en route to third place in the round-robin invitational. The Timberwolves defeated Green Bay West, 2-2, in a match decided by a shootout before losing to Elkhorn, 3-2, and Janesville Craig, 1-0.
The Timberwolves emerged from the four games with a 5-6-0 overall record.
The match at Holmen wasn’t quite as one-sided as the final score indicated. Holmen managed to generate eight shots against Tomah goalkeeper Kylie Dietzman. It was Tomah’s fourth shutout of the season.
Two different Holmen goalkeepers were bombarded with 27 Timberwolves shots.
James scored both of the Timberwolves’ goals in regulation against Green Bay East. Tomah won the shootout, 4-1.
Gnewikow, James and Vanessa Pintarro scored the shootout goals. Dietzman stopped three of four shots during the shootout period.
Goals by Nicole Vollmer and Gabriella Mubarak in the first 20 minutes gave the Timberwolves a 2-0 lead against Elkhorn, but the Elks responded with three unanswered goals within a 27-minute period.
In the loss to Janesville Craig, Kristy Benson scored the game’s only goal in the 47th minute. Craig (4-4-0 overall) won the tournament by also beating Green Bay East, 4-0, and Elkhorn, 3-1.
Tomah hosts Onalaska Tuesday in a match tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m. at E.J. McKean Field depending on field conditions. If McKean Field isn’t ready, the match would be moved to the VA Hospital and begin at 4 p.m. or 4:30.
