Tomah to participate in state-wide tornado drill on Thursday

The tornado warning siren will be sounded in Tomah on Thursday, as well as other cities around the state of Wisconsin as part of a state-wide tornado drill.

The drill, which is part of Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week, will take place at 1:30 p.m. Tomah Fire Chief Kevin Decorah said that the drill is to remind people of the dangers associated with tornados, thunderstorms, flooding and hail. Decorah said that the drill is also a good time to plan and remember severe weather safety measures.

“People should develop a plan,” Decorah said. “They should know where to go during a tornado warning, and talk to their neighbors, especially if they don’t have a sufficient shelter.”

The Tomah School District will be participating in the drill. In the event that there is severe weather reported anywhere in the state at the time of the drill, it will be postponed until 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
