The momentum generated by the Tomah High School girls soccer team didn’t carry over into the start of the Mississippi Valley Conference season.

Tomah produced just one shot on goal and dropped a 3-0 decision to La Crosse Aquinas at the Veterans Administration field Tuesday.

The Timberwolves fell to 2-1 overall. It was the opener for Aquinas, which competed in last spring’s WIAA state soccer tournament and has made three state appearances in the last five seasons.

Aquinas managed just seven shots on goal, but they put two of them in the net during the first six minutes.

Tomah plays its first road match tonight (Thursday) at La Crosse Central. The next home match is Friday vs. Sauk Prairie, 2 p.m., at E.J. McKean Field.
