It has been a fun spring break for UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis player Erin Welch.

Welch, a former Tomah High School tennis standout, has won four of five matches during the Blugolds’ spring trip to Florida. She competes as the Blugolds’ number-four singles player and is part of their number-two doubles team.

In the Blugolds’ first match against Franklin Marshall, won by Eau Claire, 5-4, Welch came from behind to defeat Jenna Ishkanian, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, in her singles match. In the doubles match, she teamed up with Kristie Carlson to register a 9-8 victory that was decided in a tiebreaker.

UW-Eau Claire then lost, 8-1 to Connecticut College. Welch lost her singles match in straight sets but combined with Carlson to give the Blugolds their lone victory in an 8-5 win at number-two doubles.

Welch was again a double winner against Illinois Wesleyan. She beat Collen McShane, 6-1, and teamed again with Carlson to win the doubles match, 8-2. UW-Eau Claire won the match, 9-0.
