" Please give us a break Casey was a little cocky and thought that he was a going to get the job automatically . He would sub in the district and read the newspaper while was to be teaching just what I want my children to have teaching them , I could care less if he was a 3 sport coach. Until no child left behind has sports as a benchmark lets concentrate on the quality of teachers not coaches in this town.Hell by now he would of been run down so bad by these parent's he would not be here either. So ,do not put someone on a pedestal because they coached alot of sports.NEW FLASH Toamh has not created anything so special in sports that any coach can hold there heads up high . Lets focus on Trust ,Honesty ,Compassion and please and thank you instead of the numbers of wins on the football field or basketball court "

" I will be retiring from a 40 year career in education in the MVC this year, and have many good friends who teach in the Tomah school district. I am no expert, but it doesn't take a genius to see what goes on there on a daily basis.
When I finished college in the late 60's, I was warned by the entire education community to stay as far away from Tomah as possible! At that time I wasn't sure what they were referring to, but as I watched the events unfold in Tomah over the years, I came to understand their warnings.
Look around Tomah. What is happening in your school system is like no other in the state! Apparently your school board operates with total impunity, often times putting the needs of the children on the back burner. Most communities would be screaming bloody murder if hundreds of highly qualified teachers were passed over so that a "dynasty" of school board members children would be given lifetime employment. Many of your finest educators are "persuaded" to leave when they ask too many questions, but the really sad part is the rest of the good teachers are forced to keep their heads down to survive.
What happens to your children in the meantime?
In Tomah, such blatant disregard for the basic fundamentals of a quality education seem to go unnoticed.
But fire a basketball coach with a losing record, and you get the biggest write-in in your paper's history.
You will get, (and have already received) everything you deserve while your schools and community keep their place as the laughingstock of Southwestern Wisconsin.

" As far as fund raising for the Tomah Soccer program this year, I do know that there was a galant effort to raise money for the soccer program in ordering Tomah Soccer sweatshirts, which went over well and then TYSA donated some money towards the banquet but not alot of other support from the school at all! I commend anyone that will take the time out of their busy schedules to coach the youth of this community. Whether they have a winning season or not and THIS YEAR was the best ever that Tomah soccer has ever done and we couldn't even get fan support to take a bus to the play off game against our rival Sparta. It was a great moment for the players just the same but sure would have been nice to have more fans to cheer the kids on, these kids go to support other programs when they aren't playing, i.e. hockey, football, wrestling, etc. "

" Its not Tom Currans fault Casey Knoble is not here. That blame is to be put on one Sandy Murray and a certain cranberry grower that was on the school board at the time...they decided to hire her daughter and her future son-in-law for the Phy-Ed jobs that were open even though Casey was a 3 sport coach. Casey was a coach that the kids would have and did rally around...Tomah would be lucky to have Jimmy back in town.

" Just solve all the problems and get rid of sports. It will save tax dollars. The kids can put all there efforts into studies then. It will get rid of the COMPLAINING PARENTS and the problems you people have with coaches who are trying to do something good with these kids. Do kids go to school for the sports or for education. No matter who you get in there to coach, it will never make everyone happy. All I see is complaining. You complain about the teachers, coaches, board members. Are you all perfect parents with perfect children. Shall we start picking apart your parenting skills. There's bigger problems in this world than than sports and coaches. Why don't you just try to be happy and enjoy life before it passes you bye. Some things just aren't worth fighting over!!!!!!!! "

" It is time the kids within the sports programs at Tomah and the parents of these young men and women start to take some the responsibility of the success and failure on their shoulders. Everyone on these blogs is blaming everyone but themselves. They need to look in the mirror and look at themselves and ask am I doing what I can to make this team better or am I complaining about this that or the other. Too often at sporting events at Tomah I hear parents complaining about coaching and officiating but if their little Johnnie or Susie jogs down to first base on a ground ball instead of hustling or they turn the ball over three straight times, the don't question the abilities instead it is the coaches or administrations fault. Are these young men and women working to make themselves better or are they assuming they will get better magically? There isn't much difference in talent betweeen Tomah and other schools, what is different is how the kids approach the sports and their confidence level and mental state of mind. Also, I doubt the AD sets policy regarding hiring and firing of coaches. "
Curran wrote on Mar 24, 2008 3:24 PM:
" I think we need to look at who is hiring these coaches. Curran need to do a better job of recruiting and screening applicants. We have had qualified people here and we let them go. Wally G and Casey K. were prime examples of good coaches who Curran thought weren't acceptable. Look how well they have done now. Curran needs to be held accountable for all his wrong poor choices, coaching and otherwise. "

You parents complain enough, you will get exactly what you "Perfect coaches" (aka: parents) ask for. "

" I played 4 years of varsity soccer under coach Barta. I thought we could have been alot better than we ended up being. But I know, along with 90% of the other players, that Tomah High School Soccer gets NO support whatsoever. Compared to other sports, it seems like nobody really cares about soccer, even though it has been consistently good for the past 3 years. But I agree that the coaches hand out awards that are undeserving of them. "
How? wrote on Mar 20, 2008 4:38 PM:
" How can a coach write a letter claiming that the school district gave the soccer program no support? Why would a school district be willing to support a program that is considered "dysfunctional"? There was never a day of proper authority and the kids ran wild. You know the program is headed for a downhill slide when you have coaches giving awards to individuals who do not deserve them. Making choices for the best interest of certain family members is not the best choice for a high school athletic team. Tomah soccer doesn't need coaches who have read a few books and think they understand the game of soccer. Tomah soccer needs new blood and someone interested in improving the game and how it's played. Tomah Youth Soccer is the biggest feeder program in the area and to have never won a conference title during his time of coaching is just ridiculous. Other high school soccer programs in the area are helped by fund raising and donations not solely by the school districts. Tomah high school soccer has never been known for fund raising and relies solely on the help of youth soccer and the school board. If you're complaint is the lack of facilities then you need to reconsider what was done by the team to ensure the proper playing area for the team (Not the school board). Other school districts play on "off campus" sites and have a large fan base and compete well. The finger needs to be turned around and certain individuals need to take credit for the lack of support in the district and community. "
