The Tomah High School boys track team is off to an impressive start.

Coach Eric Eswein’s squad opened the 2008 season by finishing second among 12 teams at the Marshfield Indoor Invitational Tuesday in the Marshfield High School Field House.

Tomah captured top-three finishes in a wide array of events. The top three finishers in each event brought home medals.

The Timberwolves first-place finishers were: Tyler Butzler (shot put), Derek Storkel (mile run), Reed Griffin (60-yard low hurdles) and Auggie Moser (pole vault).

Taking second were: Rhett Monroe (60-yard dash and long jump), Matt Ferry (triple jump) and the 1-mile relay team of Moser, Storkel, Shane Moore and Zach Johnson.

The 880-yard relay team of Moser, Monroe, Ferry and Joel Sweeney finished third.

Saturday, both the boys and girls teams head to Menomonie for the Northern Open on the campus of UW-Stout. On March 27, both teams will compete in the Chippewa Falls Invitational at UW-Eau Claire’s McPhee Center.

The first outdoor meet is April 8 at Holmen, which hosts a Mississippi Valley Conference/Coulee Conference invitational.
