If the kids learn sportsmanship, team work, dicipline, and committment, then they win regardless of thier team standings. I hate to think about what some of these kids have learned from Tomah Athletics. Worse yet, what are they learning from their parents? You can always blame someone else for your failures or shortcomings?
COACH DADE (as in Dipper) taught me once that if your going to pull, you've got to grab the rope. Looks like Tomah Fans have a rope, but they rather pull someone up a tree than pull together.

Now as for Coach Dull why do we keep drilling him, he has been coaching for several years, and all coaches I know especially the ones that have been around for a long time they want one thing a trip to state, and to be remembered they want a state chanpionship, it is no different then any athlete in high school, college, or pro they want the championship. Those 65 teams in the current NCAA tournament are not looking to be #2. So we can talk all you want to about Sectionals finals and current records and past records who cares we all want to be best in the state.
Sparta is division #2, Tomah is division#1, the way I look at it any team that can bring recognition to our area the better. It all comes down to us coaches being able to motivate our players to give there best. It looks like we are looking for a few new coaches here in Tomah lets do our best to support all interested parties, and all person interested in these postions make sure that your heart is in it and you are able to motivate our young athletes. " As a former resident and basketball player, let me say that the values I learned in the Tomah basketball program stay with me today. While I have been away, I have never seen a game coached by Jeff, but I do know that he was passionate and cared about the team and community.
As someone who has coached high school basketball and other sports outside of Tomah, I want to commend all of the coaches who are a part of the community. I never was lucky enough to have a sense of community where I coached. I commuted to my school and was not able to cultivate that community involvement. I did have to deal with upset parents, but that comes with any coaching job. No one puts as much pressure on a good coach as the coach puts on him or herself. The good ones also pressure themselves to hold their athletes to a higher standard off the court than they do on it.
The main thing to remember is that finding someone who will be a teacher, coach and active part of the community is something special and hard to find. The time commitment for coaching has increased exponentially over the years, while the compensation unfortunately is not proportionate. I ask everyone to feel free to disagree with a coaching philosophy, but in your remarks, please be respectful and don’t send personal attacks at people who are giving their time to try and make a difference in the lives of our youth.

As much as they think they're being supportive, hovering, and/or assistant coaches..... they're not. Step back, step aside. As a teacher with a few too many sideline parents, I can honestly say there are some that need a wake-up call. Look at the situation and the other parents. Are you more 'passionate' than others? Your passion may be displaced. Your loyalty may be misguided. Get a grip and step back. Let the coaches and the teachers do their job. They have to make the most of what they have to work with -- it's not an easy task!!! "

" As always, both sides of this issue have some valid points. No one can dispute the time or energy that Jeff or any high school basketball coach puts in for pennies on the hour. Anyone that has talked to Jeff knows that he has been passionate about Tomah Basketball. That should not be questioned at all. Saying "thank goodness" isn't fair to Jeff or his family.
What also needs to be understood is that Tomah has long gone without any kind of sustained success. It is time to bring in someone outside of Tomah basketball that can inject some new blood into the program. Tomah basketball is still experiencing the effects of the Russell era, and clearly that style doesn't work. It isn't just about winning (which hasn't happened much in the last 20 years), but also about kids enjoying the experience. That has been gone since the mid 80's.
Thanks to Coach Brieske for your time and effort. Hopefully this change will result in a fun and successful basketball program for Tomah. "
