Music loses twice at national wrestling tourney, Kuttruff soars in hurdles
Brandon Music lost his only two matches at the NCAA Division III wrestling championships at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, last weekend.
Music, a freshman and UW-La Crosse’s 125-pound entrant, was pinned in his first match by sixth-seeded Chris Sheetz of Delaware Valley in the first round. Sheetz went on to finish fifth.
In the consolation round, Music drew Eracleo Vallejo of Manchester College and lost a 14-9 decision.
Music finished the season with a 22-12 record.
Kuttruff in hurdles
In other college news involving a Tomah athlete, Seth Kuttruff of Carthage College finished second in the 55-meter high hurdles (8.16 seconds) at the March 1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Indoor Track and Field Championship at Carthage’s Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha. Kuttruff is a senior who also competes in the jumps and decathlon.
Last season, Kuttruff was sixth in the decathlon (4,850 points) at the CCIW Outdoor Track and Field Championship and was seventh in the high jump (5-8 ½) at the Wisconsin Private College Outdoor Track and Field Championship. He also competed in the decathlon as a freshman but sat out his sophomore season with an injury.
At Winona State, Kaleigh Curran has made the softball team. The team recently returned from a trip to Orlando, Fla., where it posted a 5-3 record.
Curran, a freshman utility player, appeared in one game and got one at-bat during the trip.
