A 70-year-old man charged with robbing a Sauk City bank Feb. 6 may have successfully robbed a bank before and gotten away with it. He wasn’t as lucky, Wednesday.

Juneau County authorities are preparing to charge Richard T. Piper with holding up a Lyndon Station bank last year, Assistant Sauk County District Attorney Kevin Calkins said Friday.

Piper, a Camp Douglas resident, appeared in court Friday via video conference.

He is charged with felony armed robbery and faces a maximum penalty of 40 years in state prison and a $100,000 fine if convicted.
