" I worked at Tomah from 1994-1999. I would like to say during that time the Administrator and DON did all they could to obtain and then keep good help. It is a multifaceted problem, it is hard to find good strong caring techs and then when you find one and train them they leave after 2 months- the turnover rate in nursing homes is a major problem. I loved helping peole which is why I became a nurse- the residents didn't plan on being in a nursing home. I would try to have a few new jokes to tell the residents and make them forget their worries, and I would find out how they like to be cared for and put it to memory and try to make their stay as pleasant as I could. It takes every one to make a nursing facility a HOME. To be a good nursing home worker you need God's help- because it is back breaking work, but it is worth it if you do your best. Stop gossip and tell residents amusing stories while you care for them. Ask your guardian angel to help you care for the residents. Oh how I wish I were there again but my life took me back to Michigan. I will keep all the souls that enter that Holy ground- in my prayers ...it is Holy because people are caring for other people-0 be loving and caring! "

" These people did not choose to be put in a nursing home, they had no choice. So I hope you stop and think about the one day that you may have to be placed in a home where you have no choice but to. Do you really think they are thinking about how people are going to come up with some tax money for them to live a better life? I hope you never have to experience that situation but if you should have to, stop and think about who is paying taxes for you!!!! "

" MONEY, MONEY and MORE MONEY. You should go live with President Bush if you are so worried about paying a little taxes, maybe take this to him and worry about paying taxes together. Have a Greatful Day. The tax lady, hee hee! "
A LITTLE TIP wrote on Apr 4, 2007 6:28 PM:
" Is it really about the taxes? Everything in this world is about taxes. Everyone pays it, there are different resources and ways to get money without taxes. Find funding from our community to help the elderly, but all the community can do is sit and complain on how bad the Care Center is, what I am trying to say is what is the community doing about it? It is not about me paying for the taxes, if it ment a little bit to make a person be able to live the rest of their lives that they have left worth living for. You look at other communities and they have so much funding outsourced, why can't the Tomah Health Care Center, ya want to know why it is because they have a bad reputation, no one will help support them in try to make the changes they need to make so the elderly can be happy. Tomah Wal-Mart, our store, no where else, would not help out for a fundraiser for the care center, but they would help out Sparta Nursing Homes, gee, how odd is that? Anyways that is my opinion, so stop worrying about paying taxes and do something if you really care, if you don't then there is no need for you to read this forum. Thanks and have a wonderful day. "

A LITTLE TIP wrote on Apr 4, 2007 9:23 AM:
" Very shamful. People talk about the Tomah Health Care Center and how they need to make it a better place for the elderly and to someday make a better reputation for them. Where is the change?? Where does the money go? Certaintly is not towards the care of the residents. That is what a nursing home should be is for the best care of the residents. It is sad that some residents pay nearly $2000.00 a month for a non-private room and get this kind of care. If the State would get on their toes and really investigate the facility they would no longer be in business and the residents could live the rest of their retirement in happiness and not wondering if they are going to be taken advantage of. And yes this is true this could happen anywhere in the US, but what is anyone doing about it? Nothing and there will be nothing more then that. So instead of complaining of all of this, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! The Tomah Health Care Center will always have this reputation, no matter how many Director of Nurses you have or Administrators, even nurses and C.N.A's, oh yeah anyone stop to think about how many companies have owned this facility. They even thought about changing the name to make a new reputation, come on, really?? So someone in the community of Tomah just put your heads together and get the best care for our elderly folks and do something. Nothing more then anonomous. "

" There is a form of abuse in all elderly care homes. The young workers now days do not have the patients to take care of them. They are there to collect a pay check and cant wait until they can go home. I have seen alot of abuse but the higher ups look away for fear of fines or an investigation. I am no longer taking care of elderly because I just couldnt take it anymore.
If you have a loved one in a home visit them often. Not only during the day but at ALL hrs of the night. "

" Why is Tomah always referred to as "you people"? Some of us are hard working, honest people, raising our kids and working on the American Dream.
I'd also like to know why these views from readers are always negative. All it is doing is giving readers a place to throw anonymous stones at each other. I'm not sure what the intention was creating this arena, but this doesn't seem productive. "

" I have been a cna for several years, and the 3rd generation. In todays world a CNA is just a job, people forget that the elderly did their share of taking care of their elderly, now it is our turn to take care of them. It is not fair that Tomah is being picked on. We have our own problems just the same as any other town in America. We are no better and no worse then any one of them. You have your town drunks, pedifiles, elderly abuse anywhere you go. Tomah is what you make of it. If you don't like it go away and don't read the Tomah paper.DUH! "
