Eight Sparta residents face felony drug charges after authorities said they seized marijuana, cocaine and hallucinogenic mushrooms at several city homes early Friday.
Seven adults and a 17-year-old are expected to appear Monday in Monroe County Circuit Court on charges of drug possession, possession with intent to deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia, said Sparta Police Chief Michael Kass.
No names or other information was released. The amount of drugs confiscated also was not revealed, but Kass said one house had “a significant quantity.”
Sparta and Tomah police, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and Monroe County Combined Tactical Unit searched three Sparta homes after a two-month investigation prompted by neighbors’ complaints about drug trafficking, Kass said.
Eleven adults, an infant and child were present during the searches, Kass said. Several are being held in the Monroe County Jail.
